Wildwood was founded in 1974, when James McWhorter felt God calling him to start a church in this small community north of Mabank, near Phalba.  We were sent out as a mission of Spence Park Baptist Church, Dallas, in May 1974 and by December 1974 we were established as an Independent Baptist church.  Bro. James McWhorter led this congregation for 35 years, before retiring in 2009; his son, Brian McWhorter, was elected to lead the congregation, and has served as Pastor since.  Bro. James continued to serve the church as Director of Missions until his death in 2013.
