At Wildwood, we’re more than a church—we’re a family! Wildwood was founded 1974, when God placed a calling on Bro. James McWhorter to start a church in this small community north of Mabank, near Phalba. What began in May of 1974 as a mission of Spence Park Baptist Church in Dallas, quickly grew into an independent Baptist congregation later that same year. Bro. James faithfully led Wildwood Baptist church for 35 years before retiring in 2009. At that time, the church called his son, Brian McWhorter, to serve as pastor, where he continues to minister faithfully, carrying out the vision and heart his father began. Even after retirement, Bro. James continued to serve the church as Director of Missions until his passing in 2013.
Nearly 50 years later, our heart remains the same, to be a welcoming place where you can come as you are, grow in Christ, and find a church that feels like home.
